ABOUT THE PLANT
Verbena belongs to the Verbenaceae family. There are approximately 800 different species. The plant comes from South America, particularly Chile. Today, however, it is also grown in southern Europe, with France offering the best quality. Due to its citrus-like smell, it is a lemon bush and reaches a height of about 2 m.
The leaves are lanceolate with whitish flowers at the tips of the branches. The plant is resistant to drought and sun. Once established, they require little care. Historical research shows that humanity has long associated the plant with divine powers.
In ancient Egypt it was called the “Tears of Isis.” Many ancient cultures attributed sacred properties to the herb and believed in its ability to grant the user the gifts of divination and sight. Therefore, it was a popular herb among magicians and mystical sages in the Orient. In ancient Greece, verbena was dedicated to the goddess Venus and used as an ingredient in love potions.
