More about the ingredients
Taboo wood, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, is the wood traditionally used to make Japanese incense. Native to Japan and China, it is from the same family as the Judas tree but has acclimatized worldwide as an ornamental tree. Its magnificent heart-shaped leaves turn red in the fall and give off a delicious caramel scent. The tree's bark is ground into powder to become the number one ingredient in Japanese incense. Its binding properties, warm woody scent, plastic qualities, and regular fibers are the origin of the perfection of Japanese incense sticks. Try using another wood to make sticks 2 mm in diameter and up to 30 cm long (over a meter long with a diameter of 5 mm for ceremonial incense). An additional virtue is that they burn slowly and release little smoke.
Effects / why?
This musky amber scent creates the sensual dimension of incense. The woody and floral notes give it elegance, balance, and nobility.
History of this incense
This incense is part of the Karin collection, which is inspired by the novel of Genji, written in the 10th century and describing life at the Imperial Court, one of whose heroes is Genji. Genji was "the fragrant prince," "the Radiant," of extreme erudition, finesse, and sensitivity of all his senses, allowing him to enjoy the tiny events of the cycle of the seasons.
Word of wisdom
"The length of the incense sticks determines their duration, which is a very practical way to pace the time of an activity, such as meditation or a work session. Traditional sticks are cut to standard dimensions (Japanese culture likes to codify, and focus on perfect quality), a bit like sheets of printing paper. The standard is 13.5cm (30 minutes), but it can be reduced by half to 6.75cm (15 minutes) or left longer at 20.25cm (45 minutes)."

Why is this incense not labeled 100% natural?
In some recipes, we use a small proportion of artificial fragrances. For example, when the scents are not available in nature, are not olfactory strong enough, or when their use involves the destruction of natural resources currently under ecological pressure. We believe that only natural ingredients provide positive health effects (aromatherapy - aromachology) and avoid synthetic ingredients as much as possible. We ensure, where applicable, that the 2-3% of artificial perfume or coloring added to certain recipes does not pose any health or well-being problems in the context of our use. We carefully select these components, eliminating all those that could be potentially dangerous. In this category of incense, from the point of view of their naturalness, we must objectively consider their positive influence thanks to the 97-98% of natural aromatic materials in their recipes. The 2-3% of synthetic ingredients selected for their safety behave neutrally.
